Teachers

Jo Hoffberg
Jo Hoffberg is a force of nature. She is an international choreographer, a highly decorated competitor, a thoughtful mentor, a wearer of high-waist pants, and is best known for her teaching. She has taught Lindy Hop, Charleston, Vernacular Jazz, Aerials, Competition Prep, and Weekend Intensives both nationally and abroad since 2007. Her love and appreciation for various Black American art forms allows her to bring innovative versatility to the dance floor while simultaneously respecting the roots.

Her demand as an instructor, performer, and competitor has taken her to hundreds of festivals spanning 35 countries and five continents. After having spent many years prioritizing Lead & Follow, Jo now enjoys exploring improvisation, musicality, body awareness, and self-expression, which is apparent every time she steps on the dance floor (or posts videos of herself dancing in her living room). Incredibly passionate about teaching the solo side of partner dancing, Jo is super-freaking excited about helping students find their voice in this dance! Her motto: possibilities over perfection.

Felipe Braga
Felipe is a Brazilian Jazz dancer who grew up in an environment where music, dance, and rhythm are a part of everyday life.

He came across Lindy Hop while living in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and was drawn by the rhythms and the beauty of the social dance culture which reminded him of his own.
He started frequenting the vibrant porteña swing dance scene of the time which took him to travel the world following his passion.
Currently living in Berlin, Felipe travels the world performing and teaching.

His classes focus on the social encounter of Jazz dance, allowing for the exchange of rhythm and the shared experience of Swing.
Bands

The Basin Street Brawlers
Saturday night
Basin Street Brawlers are London's own world class hot jazz ensemble, famous for playing the most beautiful melodies and raucous rags of the 1920s and 1930s.

A firm favourite amongst swing dancers, the Brawlers swing and stomp their way through the finest songs of Louis Armstrong, Billie Holiday and Fats Waller “with all the energy and assurance of a bunch of Kansas City veterans”.

Pete Long's Pocket Basie
Sunday afternoon
Pete Long is an accomplished band leader, bringing together talented musicians to delight swing dance audiences.
We’re excited to have Pete’s six-piece head to FCS, with trumpet, tenor sax and a Basie style acoustic rhythm section bring fun and energy to our Sunday afternoon!
DJs & taster teachers
Andy AV8

Swing dancer, teacher, event organiser and all round great bloke Andy Garner has been DJing for over 30 years (since the days of vinyl) and can get any dancefloor jumping.
One of three founders of the Norwich Hot Club on Fridays, Andy and his fellow DJs make their pub nights a blast with the very best swing, blues, rhythm and blues (and more).
'Pinball' Paul Claydon
Friday night DJ + Teacher
Paul Claydon has been collecting jazz/swing music since 1995 after seeing a gypsy Paris jazz band at the Cambridge folk festival.
Having started Lindy Hop in 1999, he has been avidly collecting Swing music to dance to. Paul has been DJ since 2003 at many swing dance events including Goodnight Sweetheart, London Swing Festival, Rock Bottoms, Swing’s the Thing, Any Swing Goes, Hullzapoppin, Brighton Lindy Hop festival, Djam and Twinwood Festival as well as Twinwood radio.
The Groove Lounge is Rug-Cutters Lindyhops’ own event every month in Cambridgeshire and people come from great distances to dance to Paul’s selection of tunes.
As a swing dance teacher of national repute, Paul’s musicality is second to none. In his workshop you can explore and enrich the connection between the music and your dancing to open up a world of creativity.

Laura has taught several tap and Lindy hop workshops and is part of Norwich’s solo jazz performance troupe, The Jenny Thomas Jammers.
Sarah Lewis
Teacher
Sarah Lewis is a performer, teacher, choreographer and passionate community engager. Originally trained at London Contemporary Dance School, she craved more human, joyful and holistic experiences. This curiosity led Sarah to specialise in community dance, explore many social dance forms, geek out over anatomy and physiology and delve into clowning and yoga.
With a zest for spreading joy through dance, Sarah has worked with international dance companies, refining a trauma-informed, inclusive approach to dance. As the co-director of Glass House Dance, she has spent the last 11 years lighting up Outdoor Arts Festivals nationwide with uplifting dance performances and experiences for all.
Matt Nunn
Saturday night DJ + Teacher
As his alias Hank JD Sleek, Matt is Norwich’s foremost afficionado of all things Americana – DJing his ever-expanding tune collection, running club events and teaching Texas Two Step, Zydeco, Country Waltz, Flat Footing, Lindy Hop and Swing Jive (besides being a skilled artist and theatrical designer too). We’re looking forward to dipping our toes into the social dances of the Southern states, ready for the BBQs and sultry evenings of summer!
Ellen & Rob Parkinson
Teacher
Rob and Ellen caught the collegiate shag bug 12 years ago at Twinwood; it has since spread to their extremities and they have travelled to shag festivals around the world seeking treatment from top international teachers. Selfishly, they want everyone to learn so they have more people to shag with; it is their mission to spread the love, believing when the tempo goes up there is simply no substitute.
David 'The Mailman' Willis
Sunday afternoon DJ
Dave Willis ‘The Mailman’ has been collecting a wide range of vintage music for a lifetime.
A fellow founder member of the Hot Club of Norwich, he has DJ’d at Frisking the Whiskers weekend, The Walpole weekender, Hillbilly Hoedown and Fine City Swing events, among many others!
